ABOUT THE SHOW:
Almost, Maine is a magical play set in a fictional, though highly authentic, town in rural Maine called Almost. John Cariani shares a series of short scenes that succeed one another in real time but are occurring at the same time one ordinary winter’s night under the Northern Lights. Each scene allows audiences to peer into the lives of the citizens of Almost through nine unique stories of love that are sometimes uplifting, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes embarrassing and sometimes just not what we expect. We meet a young couple clumsily navigating their feelings, friends struggling to admit their feelings, established couples grappling with change and individuals confronting regret and missed opportunities. Cariani’s play is funny, touching, beautiful, sad and as real as it is imaginary.
Since each scene is a duet that can stand alone, chemistry between scene partners is crucial but casting is otherwise flexible. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Rehearsal schedule will be light (no more than two days/week until tech) if we can assemble a full cast of 19. Rehearsals will be more frequent if we must cast individual actors in multiple scenes.
No appointments are necessary. Please bring a head shot or current photo with you to the audition if you have not auditioned with us previously. Readings will be from the script.
All cast and crew receive stipend payments for performances. Directions to the theatre are available at our website www.granitetheatre.com
There is ample street parking and parking lots within walking distance of the Granite Theatre.
