Deathtrap - by Ira Levin
Sydney Bruhl – polished, dashing, devious, clever, thinks he’s the smartest man in the room and wants people to know it. Is “on stage” even when at home.
Clifford Anderson – looks physically fit, clever. Knows he’s the smartest man in the room and can bide his time to display it.
Myra Bruhl – sophisticated, upper class but embraces the country life. Innocent, sweet, caring, emotional, nervous, even skittish, supportive of Sydney’s career and moods but grows some backbone when he crosses the line.
Helga ten Dorp – Psychic. Wild, individual, Gypsy-like. Is in and out of this world. Knows that she’s a celebrity and buys into the show of her gift. Has an accent. Is disarming and brave when faced with pain and violence.
Porter Milgrim – Professional, solid, observant. Sydney’s and Myra’s lawyer. Seemingly comfortably ensconced in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a “dry” spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with devilish cleverness, and with such an abundance of thrills and laughter, that audiences will be held enthralled until the final, startling moments of the play.
